2 Months Post Double Mastectomy
It’s been 2 months post double mastectomy and it’s slowly but surely getting better. The expanders are still uncomfortable and I’m slowly getting used to them. It’s very awkward to hug people though. The expanders are super hard and feels like rocks so I try to avoid hugging. When I’m my period, my body is more sensitive and I feel slightly sore. I lost all feeling on my breast. The only thing I feel left is my right nipple. It still feels uncomfortable, like raw. It used to be super sensitive and not in a good way. But as long as I don’t press on it, it’s okay. Before clothes would hurt them and it’d feel like an Indian burn. It’s actually a good sign because I might have a chance on getting all my feelings back. But I’m not betting on it, I just accepted it’s all gone and if it comes back then great.
It’s been 3 weeks since I started going back to work in the salon. Im supposed to start slow but I’m going back in full force, 5x a week with full days. Im honestly really really tired. But I haven’t worked in 6 weeks so I need to catch up. I only feel pain when I’m doing a blow out, so I’ve just been curling peoples hair for the most part. And whenever I pump the shampoo and conditioner actually hurts. Luckily it’s quick but at the end of the day my chest is really sore. I’ve also been working out more lately so I can get stronger. I really hated feeling so weak and useless so working out makes me feel better even when I don’t want to do it. It takes 6 weeks to recover and feel “normal”, but it takes 6 months for your body to be 80% fully healed.
My scars are looking better. I went to my dermatologist and they gave me some scar gel from skinuva. I think it’s working? It’s just going to take some time. The main scar that bothers me is when I got my lumpectomy since it’s more on the side too corner, so sometimes it’s hard to cover it when I’m wearing a tank top. But I started laser treatment on it, everywhere else I have to wait since I have one more surgery coming up. I only did one session of excel v laser treatment and will go again this coming monday. I have to wait 3 weeks in between for each session. My scar is starting to fade so that’s a good thing. And since it’s a smaller incision, they’re charging me $150 for each session. Not too bad at all. Then I can start doing laser treatments on my scars ~2 to 3 months after my next surgery. I do feel like I might have to do fillers where they had the drains. They’re closed but it looks like piercings. Overall it’s been fine. Not great, not bad just fine. I am over working myself but that’s my choice so I can’t complain too much about that.
