My Double Mastectomy

 The weirdest thing someone has said to me after telling them I had a double mastectomy  “Congratulations! Would you recommend it?” 😶🤦‍♀️

 If you think bras were uncomfortable before, wearing them with tissue expanders are the worse. I can’t find anything comfortable so I just opted out on wearing one. It already feels tight and uncomfortable on its own. The only bras that you can wear are bralettes and “sport” bras. And I mean “sport” because you’re not supposed to wear anything that’ll be too tight or it’ll squish the expanders. No wired bras, it makes things even more uncomfortable especially if you have the incision underneath. Or cup bras. Cup bras are weird especially if they have a padding. Whatever the case, since the expanders are so hard, it will mold to whatever you’re wearing. And it doesn’t just bounce back. If your bra is digging in your “boobs” it will leave a dent. And you can see it through your shirt. And that dent will stay there for a good amount of time. If you wear a bra that pushes your “boobs” together, once you take it off, they’ll be slanted inwards.  It’s been 2 months post double mastectomy and it’s slowly but surely getting better. The expanders are still uncomfortable and I’m slowly getting used to them. It’s very awkward to hug people though. The expanders are super hard and feels like rocks so I try to avoid hugging. When I’m my period, my body is more sensitive and I feel slightly sore. I lost all feeling on my breast. The only thing I feel left is my right nipple. It still feels uncomfortable, like raw. It used to be super sensitive and not in a good way. But as long as I don’t press on it, it’s okay. Before clothes would hurt them and it’d feel like an Indian burn. It’s actually a good sign because I might have a chance on getting all my feelings back. But I’m not betting on it, I just accepted it’s all gone and if it comes back then great.  It’s been 3 weeks since I started going back to work in the salon.
